The Human Powered Trail Groomer was designed and developed by a skier with 25 years experience in product development, engineering grade plastics, and cross country skiing and a school background in exercise science/ biomechanics.
Ironically, he also owns a ski area, The Viking Nordic Center in Londonderry, VT (www.vikingnordic.com). He rationalizes the potential conflict of owning a ski center and encouraging people to ski on their own trails this way: Hopefully the trail you groom with the HPTG will be used by others, the more people who ski the better for the sport and ultimately ski centers. Also, the more skiers understand and appreciate the trail grooming process the more likely they are to go to a center to ski. Most HPTG users only try to maintain a km or two of trail, most Nordic centers maintain, 20-60 kms. Skiing a HPTG-groomed trail is great for Monday - Friday, on the weekends and holidays head to a ski center. Let someone else do the grooming!
